The Power and the Grace
This was taken during an unusually cold, rainy stretch in Oregon. We had an incredible amount of rain in a short period of time — something like 10 inches in a week — and the ground was already saturated before that.
Upstream, you could see the water rushing toward the falls like a torrent. It was already loud just moving down the river, but once you walked lower and the waterfall came into view, the sound and power of it really hit you.
That’s what I’ve always loved about this picture — the combination of power and grace.

The Little Winner
I saw this little guy on my front patio when I was sitting out sunning myself on a late summer day. It was just a perfect day, and he seemed like he was right in the season of his life. He was a strong guy, no fear at all. I got right up close to him and he just held his ground. I said to myself, he’s a little winner — he knows how to hold his own. And yeah, he was a big guy.
