The Birthday Surprise

I took this picture a few days ago during one of my walks, but I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Sometimes a photograph needs to sit for a while before the imagination catches up.

Then today, walking along, I thought about it again. Suddenly, there it was. A cupcake! A giant cupcake! What else could it possibly be?

So we gave it great swirls of frosting, a candle burning proudly on top, and a little woodland squirrel peeking around the corner, perhaps wondering who was having a birthday—or whether anyone would notice if he took the first bite.

That’s what I love about these little discoveries. Something ordinary can wait patiently for days until one simple thought turns it into something extraordinary.

And sometimes, all it takes is a cupcake.

Where the Flowers Cross

I pass this little bridge on my walks quite often. It sits in the middle of a housing development, surrounded by rocks, and for the longest time, I couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it. There was something interesting about the setting, but the idea never seemed to come together.

Today, as I walked past it again, I started imagining flowers growing between those rocks. Not crowded together, but scattered naturally, with different colors, shapes, and sizes. The more I thought about it, the more I could see the possibilities.

From there, the scene began to grow. A little flowing water, a more inviting wooden bridge, and the surrounding landscape filled with greenery and warm sunlight. What had once seemed like an ordinary arrangement of rocks became a peaceful garden overflowing with color and life.

And if you look carefully into the bushes along the lower left side, you might discover that someone has been quietly watching this transformation.

Sometimes the inspiration isn’t in finding something new. It’s in finally seeing the possibilities in something you’ve passed a hundred times before.
