Minto-Brown
This was taken on one of our walks at Minto-Brown Island Park in Salem. It’s a big park near the river, but once you get into the trails and trees, it feels like a real escape.
We used to walk and ride bikes there quite a bit. I haven’t ridden in a while, but I still have my 29er, a bike I picked the parts for and had a friend put together for me.
We haven’t been back in a couple of years, but this picture brings the place right back.
That’s what I like about photographs. Sometimes they don’t just show you where you were. They remind you how it felt to be there.

Under the Skin
This one started as a little experiment. I was thinking, I wonder if I can take almost anything and turn it into a picture.
So I took a close-up photo of my arm.
From there, we went small — really small. Suddenly the surface of my skin became its own strange landscape, with tiny astronauts examining it, poking around, taking samples, and exploring something that normally wouldn’t get a second look.
That’s one of the things I like about creating this way. Sometimes you don’t have to go looking for a big idea.
Sometimes you just have to look closer.
