The Emerald Wingwalker
During the summer months, the bugs were out and about. Not too many to really bug you, thankfully!
But I had an opportunity to have a little fun with two different insects and see what would happen if I combined them into one.
And wouldn’t you know it? I think I’ve created an entirely new species!
I’m especially happy with those bright purple eyes and that beautiful shade of green. Add those delicate wings and long, spindly legs, and you’ve got yourself a little creature that looks like it might actually exist somewhere in nature.
Of course, you won’t find this one in any field guide.
At least, not yet!

The Gentleman in the Cracks
Photography • Imagination • Stories
It all started on one of my daily walks.
I noticed something that most people probably wouldn’t give a second thought to: a little grass growing through the cracks in the pavement. Nothing particularly remarkable. Just nature finding a way to make itself known.
But I stopped and looked a little closer.
There was something about the way that grass was growing that caught my imagination. I wondered what I could make out of it.
And that’s where our gentleman began.
Those little strands of grass eventually became the golden eyebrows and wisps surrounding his eyes. From there, the idea grew into something entirely different. Why not create a portrait using seeds? Not just one kind, but all sorts of seeds, grains, and coffee beans, each contributing its own color and texture.
Before long, a gentleman began emerging from the pavement, complete with his distinguished expression, stylish clothing, and a cigar.
But something was missing.
He needed a little company.
Enter four colorful purple birds, each with its own personality. They weren’t always quite so friendly-looking. An earlier group was a little too intimidating for younger audiences, so we invited a more cheerful bunch to take their place.
And I think they fit right in.
The result is one of our most unusual creations. A mosaic made from an assortment of seeds and coffee beans, inspired by grass growing where nobody expected it.
And since coffee beans play such an important role in his appearance, it seems only fitting that this gentleman should find himself hanging out in a coffee shop.
I wonder what he orders.
Probably something dark roast.
Sometimes the smallest things we notice on a walk become the biggest adventures in our imagination.
